My New Year’s Resolution? No Resolutions. I Do This Doable Thing Instead.

Every new year of our lives, it is suggested (demanded?) that we humans make a list of resolutions. Throw away old, bad habits. Start participating in new, healthy, ones. You know the drill. Join a gym, cut out sugar, and walk a certain amount of steps. I needn’t list more. Most certainly, you have your old, yellowed, wrinkled lists from decades past balled up in a drawer somewhere in the basement

Forgive yourself now! You are not a quitter, a fake, or someone with zero willpower. In fact, you are part of the human race. So am I. Therefore, I heard about a new thing to do this year which actually sounds like fun to me.

A friend decided to choose a “Word of the Year.” What is that? It’s a word with positive connotations for you and you alone. A word you needn’t “proclaim” to the masses. A few tiny letters strung together that feel, well, “doable.”

It sounded awesome to me. That’s why I’m sharing this with you. Now I am sure you are thinking, “How the heck do I choose a single word?” Exhale Ladies. I’ve got you. I’ve been writing for decades. Heck, this blog alone is ten years old. (Geesh, how’d that happen?)

Anywho, being the wordsmith that I am, (silent pat on the back) here are a few gems to get you started:

  1. Balance.
  2. Focus
  3. Grace
  4. Appreciation
  5. Willingness
  6. Consistency
  7. Growth
  8. Trust
  9. Seeking
  10. Detachment
  11. Flow

I could’ve stopped at ten, but I’m an over-giver so I went to eleven. That’s how much I care. I know you are all brilliant and can take it from here.

Maybe you will pick one of my suggested words. Perhaps a great one popped into your head the moment you began considering this! If so, feel free to share it with the rest of us if you feel like that’d be cool.

Wow! I “resolved” to write a fun, inspiring, New Year’s post, and by gosh, I believe I did it!
