How A Little Library Brings Me Big Joy

Society tells us not to get too big for our britches, not to be cocky. But lately, especially in the midst of this pandemic, I found something that I am cocky about…thank you very much.

A forest of Little Libraries has popped up in neighborhood front yards. The rules are you can take a book and leave a book. I’ve made it my mission, as a COVID side job to bundle up my books and donate them to these Little Libraries so people can enjoy them.

The next day I make sure I visit the now stocked Little Library. There is always a delightful surprise waiting for me.

This is the source of my newfound cockiness! Because every time I’ve loaded another literary motherlode into a Little Library, I’ve gone back the next day to see if anyone cared. Other books languish there for weeks. Yours Truly’s tomes are always all gone. Every single one of them. Clearly, people dig my taste in books.

I don’t know why this is making me cocky, but it’s definitely motivating me to clear my bookshelves.

Are people peering out the windows of their Covid cages, looking for the Blonde Lady with the Small Grey Dog, to drop off another compendium of book bedmates?

Is it the Amy Poehler and Tina Fey tomes they yearn for? Or the classic page-turners of the Pat Conroys and Thomas Dresslers? Yes! The answer to all of it is yes!

Which five or so books will I load into the Little Library tomorrow?. It’s all for the enjoyment of my neighbors who are obviously in need of some form of literary entertainment. I’m happy to provide it and I’m going to allow myself this one bit of cockiness, cause well, what else have I got to look forward to these days?

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!

I can’t believe I stumbled onto your blog!!! Im 57 years old and have been an RN for over 30 years now. Have a wonderful hubby, 2 grown kids and 1 perfect grandson! Looking to retire in about 1 1/2 years. But in the meantime want to widen my circle of friends. Wasn’t sure how/where to start with this and a friend sent me an article about Little Libraries! Being a major bookworm all my life this sounds like my thing! Looking forward to starting this project and will be following your blog! Thx!

So glad to hear of this. It really is a fun little hobby. And with this pandemic, I feel like I’m helping those who cannot go out at all. There’s nothing like a good book. And I’ve donated tons of books and cleared some shelves. Win-win!
