Are you in a self talk battle? Some days the 2 Diane’s that live in my head do not get along. It can get ugly up there! Lots of bobbing and weaving, both sides trying for a knockout.
There is of course the Doubting Diane. She constantly bares her jagged teeth and tells me I should just stay put! I call her my Negative Self Talker. She is very convincing. “Hey Dummy! No one wants to hear from you. Shut up, stay home and eat a pint of chocolate gelato!
Covid hasn’t helped any, to say the least! There has been literally no one to hang out with. Like at a place that is not my place. It’s hard to get into an argument with someone who’s not there. Hence, the self argument problem.
Of course as we mature, looking at things from multiple angles seems the wisest thing to do. But also as we mature, there is less time actually left to make things happen. Therefore, decisions become bigger, don’t they?
After all of the angles, and this virus, and this extended life break, I’m feeling like ending the argument. “Doing something is better than doing nothing,” someone used to say. I have no idea who, I’m in more than middle age!
If you are in a self talk battle on a basis that you realize after reading this is taking over, stop it. Go outside, even if it’s chilly, for a little chill on your body is better than a fight in your head. Get a hot cocoa someplace and enjoy the inner head silence that we all could use more of these crazy days.
Doubting Diane is on vacation for now. If you’ll excuse me, I’m putting on my walking shoes. It’s LA baby! Time to knock myself out, with fun!
