I know this column is about being left at 50, but as a woman of that age, I had to voice my opinion on Khloe Kardashian’s latest(!) show on “E”. She was out touting this show all over parent of the “E” channel’s NBC Today Show and other outlets. The premise being that she helps people get revenge😈 on people who were mean to them before their makeovers. The promise of this, of course, is that in the end, the wondrously “made-over” will show up gorgeous and revenge will be so sweet! The gloriously made over’s lives will be changed! They will then go on to live “Kardashianed” lives.
Oh my. Where to begin, right? We Leftat50’s have the glorious hindsight to know that there is no such thing as getting revenge on an Ex. And in fact, the male contestant in this show who is trying to win back his lover is disappointed when that lover never shows up to his “new me” party. His mother shows up instead!
“We can lose weight, but it’s the pain – the pounds of pain on the inside that must be dealt with to really make ourselves over!”
I’m not trying to be mean here, but it’s obvious that if the show had featured a woman our age, we could have told that man that no amount of weight loss or surgery would matter to the man who left him. Men leave, they move on. There will always be a younger, thinner model to leave you for.
And that’s okay. That’s the message I would send on this “makeover” show. For we know, the true makeover happens on the inside. Yes, we can get our hair changed💇and our acne treated, and we can lose weight, but it’s the pain – the pounds of pain on the inside that must be dealt with to really make ourselves over!
The young woman profiled on this show gets her makeover to get revenge on a female friend she thinks was being mean to her. But the mean girl had no idea that any of her actions had led to a vendetta against her. This so obviously proves that there is really no such thing as revenge. Or a revenge makeover.
I wish I could have stepped onto the set and told them this in advance, but nothing but maturity would have helped these young people.
We may have been Leftat50, but together, we give each other the support to remake ourselves for ourselves, and that is the sweetest revenge of all!👏
