How does hot sex give way to cool handshakes?
After over two decades together, a virus had infected our marriage. It had devolved from a Bad Case of Loving You to a Bad Case of The Friendly’s.
We went from a couple who showed numerous signs of affection throughout each day, to Two People who kind of just passed by each other in the big house they shared. No more in-jokes, no more what should we have tonight for dinner?s.
When a marriage is going south it’s not too hard for women to tell. There’s no more opening of doors, pulling out of chairs, helping on of coats. All such acts occurred way, way down Early Courting Lane. So far back you can’t even see ’em.
Where oh where did that early marriage spouse go? The “can’t wait to tell you this” person. The “we must try this new restaurant” guy. And Mr., “Wow, you look like a million bucks in that dress”, best husband ever?
When basic human kindness goes out of the relationship, when you stop truly looking after each other, that’s when you know one of two things:
1. Something is missing. By missing, that means maybe it can come back. OR
2. Something is gone. Gone means it’s never coming back.
Are those parts of your marriage missing or gone? Were they ever salvageable? Maybe you can shake on it.
