Stuck in a Moment? U2 Must Get Urself Together!

“I’m not afraid of anything in this world, There’s nothing U can throw at me that I haven’t already  heard, I’m just trying to find a decent melody, A song that I can sing in my own company. ..You’ve got to get yourself together, you got stuck in a moment, and now you can’t get out of it.” – Bono, U2

This song was a big hit while I was going through the very start of my new life after being Left.  At 50.  It had a special meaning for me.  Sometimes when it came on the radio I would feel empowered and hopeful.  Other times, I’d be reduced to tears.  Because, first of all, I really was looking for the song that I could sing in my own company.  I was living in my new apartment in self-imposed silence.  No music.  No nothing.  There’s was SO MUCH in my head at the time, self-doubt, worry, grief, fear of the future, that it seemed like any outside noise would be overwhelming.

But over that “silence is a must” time, something happened.  And like the song says, I found my own “song”.  And by that I mean a way to feel in this new life that felt like a pleasant melody.  I could wake up refreshed, for example.  Oh my!  I slept through the night!  I would WANT to do something nice for myself.  Oh my!  I love my new hair color!  I forgot I loved baking!  Or whatever it was.  All of those little life-joys that had fallen away, that I had denied myself became realized once more.  I had no idea of the prison I had put myself in.  “Stuck in a moment” indeed!  That  “who will ever love me” stuck moment, that, “I guess I deserve this” stuck moment.  Little by little, as the seconds of my New Life clicked by, those thoughts and feelings stopped talking to me.  I started to hear a new conversation.  And today, it is very rare that I go back to those dark thoughts.

So, I encourage you all to stop listening to those negative melodies that have been playing in your head for so long now, and find your new song.  You’ve got to get yourself together.  You got stuck in a moment, but you CAN get out of it!

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
