Earth Comes Into Her Own at 50

“As a seed buried in the Earth cannot imagine itself as an orchid or a hyacinth, neither can a heart packed with hurt imagine itself loved or at peace.  The courage of the seed is that once cracking, it cracks all the way.” – The Book of Awakening, Mark Nepo

Today is Earth Day, and I found this beautiful passage and thought it would touch upon some thoughts all of us, confined to home, are feeling. Nature is blossoming here in Los Angeles as it never has before. The recently clean air probably has something to do with it. Without humans being the polluters they naturally are, Mother Nature is an artist that has painted the most beautiful landscape ever.

When you are left at 50, you feel awfully lonely at first. As time goes on, you get clear-headed and new thoughts and ideas begin to grow. Your inner and outer landscapes change. A brain no longer muddled with, “What the hell am I gonna do’s” is working optimally, creating at internet speed.

In our past relationship, we used to be the seeds that were buried. Now even contained at home we are free to grow. To contribute to the wellness of ourselves and this planet. I’m tending to my houseplants as I never have before. You too? Inner beauty is such a pleasurable thing to nurture. Inside of your home and yourself.

Is your quarantined personage longing to feel a part of something? Every one of us isolated souls make up this planet. Now instead of contributing to its decimation, we can contribute to her rebirth. And our own.

Grow yourself some vegetables! Make homemade soup. Feed yourself for days with it. Wasn’t that simple? To nurture and create a pastime that hasn’t been put into practice B.Q. (Before Quarantine)

It’s the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day. Who were you then? A being with a future that was open and unknown.

It was all up to us to make hundreds of choices that determined how our lives moved forward. It’s time to do that again but for a very different and concerning reason. A virus has made a choice for us we strongly disagree with. Focus on what you can do to force your bloom no matter what the circumstance. It’s time to come into your own at fifty.

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!

  1. This is lovely and smart!

I’ve been referring to “B.Q.” as The Pre-Apocalyptic Dystopia.
