Find A Way

“Find A Way” is the title of a new book by champion swimmer Diana Nyad. At the age of 64, she swam 111 miles from Cuba to Florida. Without the aid of a shark cage!

When you were left, you felt as if life had carried you off on a current you could not escape from. It was too overpowering of a pull and you were not strong enough to get out of it completely. To just swim on in your own way. After being partnered up for so long, you had no idea what “your way” was. You maybe never even thought about needing to come up with a “your way.” Not once. You had no reason to. But then the current changed and he stepped out of the River of Life you assumed you’d travel on together forever.

Some people would say they were left on a boat without a paddle. But you were left without a boat! And you were too exhausted to try and swim to a shore of your own choosing. You didn’t even know that existed. So you were just treading water and terrified for awhile. Who wouldn’t be?

Then something remarkable started to happen. You stopped fighting the current, the kicking and the clawing and the gasping for air. And then your head cleared and you looked around. You saw that you were actually in a much more beautiful place. Elegantly maneuvering down this stream, you started to feel more like a victor than a victim. There was a new ease to your movements and you began to see that the river wasn’t taking you, you were taking it. And these two forces of nature were going to be the ones that sent you on your way, with fresh-water-eyes and a new way of breathing that would help you endure anything. To quote Diana’s famous mantra, you would “Find A Way.”
