Taking Back Your Last Name & Finding The New You

When the big split happens and all the ugly dust settles, we find ourselves with a name dilemma, namely, are we taking back our last names?😶

Many women do not take their husbands’ last names anymore, but many gals of a certain generation did. I feel that taking back your name is a way of taking back your life.

My professional life was also tied to my Ex, and though I had kept my last name, I felt that keeping my name would somehow keep me tied to him.

So, I came up with a completely new name. Diane Dupree. Don’t you love it? Diane Dupree sounds like a woman of the world. It has an international flair.🇺🇸🇲🇲🇬🇧🇫🇷🇱🇹

Of course it wasn’t just the new, exotic name change, it was a shift in how I saw 👓myself.

“I wanted to remake everything about Diane and I was certain this last name change was my golden ticket out of Diane-Who-Was-Left-Ville into Exotic-World-Traveler-and-Dater-of French-Men-Who Owned-Yachts-Diane.”

Then real life knocked on my thick skull and explained to me that this idea was “cray-cray”😜. It seems it would screw up all kinds of government things, like future medicaid or social security and all that other stuff that I was not in the mood to think about.

So, with much heartache and trepidation, I said goodbye to Diane Dupree, woman of the world.

Of course I have all of her attributes inside of my birth-named self, so these last few years have been spent being the architect of my new life-house.

After licking the wounds, and hiding others, so I can live happily on a day-to-day basis, I am boldly going where no Diane has ever gone – into the world that daily shapes me into The-Diane-I-Am-Meant-To-Be. Heck, maybe I’ll just go by one name and forget the last one, like Cher or Madonna!  It’s all up to me, so goodbye Diane Dupree!🚮

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
