In Need of a Dream Catcher

I think I need a Dream Catcher. One of those Native American hoops that capture bad dreams and let the pleasant dreams through. Why, you ask?
Well, are you still recovering from the Dashed Dreams of a Nightmare Relationship?
Are you alright during your waking hours, but your sleeping hours are not so restful? I get it. I’ve been through the sleepless nights. I can see now that a lot of fears, in the form of bad dreams, were keeping me awake. Even though I so badly wanted and needed to rest. I could not.
If you are in this now, I understand! I’ve drunk the chamomile tea, taken the hot bath, stopped eating close to bedtime, made sure my bedroom wasn’t too hot, and made sure no light was leaking through curtains.

Still, my eyes would not stay shut. Tick, tick, tick.

I wanted so badly to escape what I was going through. At least for eight lousy hours. But there was no escape for me. Just dark circles under my eyes every jittery, over-caffinated morning. It seemed so unfair. I was certain he slept like a baby.

Next. To. Her.

Perhaps this may be part of your problem as well. Are you thinking about your Ex late at night? Wondering what he’s doing? If so, you need to stop. Really, I mean it.

You’re thinking, “Well, maybe that’s easier said than done.” And if that’s what you’re thinking, you’d be right. One hundred percent right. Just because it’s not easy, doesn’t mean it’s not the best thing you should be doing. “But how? You’ve already cited all the things you’ve tried. They don’t work!”

I can give you a tip. And when you read the next sentence containing the tip, you are going to be mad at me. Because it’s short and not complicated.

You have to decide that you are over it.

You have to decide that thinking about him in the middle of the night is just a really bad habit. A habit that developed while you were still with him, wondering where he was. All. Those. Nights.

Your nights are your own now! You are free of all of that. Now, you must convince the Woman in your Dreamtime to go take a powder. Scram. Scat! That sad, scared, sleepless version of You. Kick Her to the curb! You can do this. You actually have to do this. Claim your life back for yourself. Now. Adios Sleepless Scared Lady.

You are a busy single woman now. You have fun stuff to focus on at night. Maybe you can try making a list. A list of the empowering things you are going to do for yourself the next day. Or things you did that day. Did you work out? Eat right? Walk with a friend through the park? Surely, you did one positive thing for yourself. This tossing and turning thing is just a habit of your subconscious mind. IT’S NOT YOU.

Perhaps a dream catcher is a solution. I’m willing to give it a try. Why? Because I think our sleeping moments inform our waking ones. Our brains are built that way. Dreams are a mystery that many have studied but no one can really explain. And that’s okay. As long as we filter out the bad ones and revel, in delicious sleep, with the good ones.

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
