Flattened Leaves

When I was a child, I used to love finding pretty fall leaves. I’d carefully choose my favorites. A huge red maple leaf. A speckled orange oak. And a golden yellow birch. I’d press them between the pages of my big, red Webster’s dictionary. The leaves would join the beautiful pansies, clover, and rose petals I’d already pressed from summer.

I would wait and wait for months until they were flat and stiff enough to safely be extracted. I learned how to iron them between two pieces of waxed paper and turn them into bookmarks. When I was at school my assignment pages would be marked with mother nature’s page holders.

Occasionally, years later, I would open a book and find that I’d completely forgotten that I pressed a beautiful leaf.

I would delicately spring it from its dictionary prison. Holding it up to the light I’d admire its beautiful flatness. How after countless years it had morphed into something completely different from the leaf it had originally been.

When you are leftat50, you’re kind of like the leaves that have been found in these books.

Perhaps you flattened out a part of yourself during your marriage and put it away. Now it’s time to pull that part out, admire its beauty, and display it for all the world to see.

Think about it. It’s time to repurpose yourself and celebrate the beauty of you.

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
