My National Pet Day “Ah-Hah”

Today we celebrate National Pet Day.  Oh, how we love them!  I adopted my first pet ever the year my divorce happened.  I had lots of jokes about losing a man who wouldn’t obey me to gaining a fur-friend who would.  And, oh, how much joy my little dog Polo has brought me in the ensuing years.  He reads my every emotion and reacts.  When tears flowed, he was there.  When I couldn’t sleep, he’d accompany me on late night head-clearing walks.  And let’s not even go into the Unconditional Love!

I take extremely good care of my Polo.  Nothing but the best food, the best vets, lots of exercise, tending to his every need, basically.  In short, on this National Pet Day I must confess that I take better care of him then I do myself!  Perhaps the true lesson of celebrating this day is to be reminded to take as much care of the pet owner as the pet!

Are you taking care of your every need?  I mean really?  Or do you often treat yourself like a second class citizen, putting others needs and wants ahead of your own?

Did you do that to the bitter end of your relationship?  Even when he was being the most non-nurturing man on Earth?

I did.  Big-time  So, if your answer to all of the above is yes, well, then you are absolutely in the best place you could be right now, as you sit here reading this.

If you can, just for the few minutes it takes to read this, pop out of all your mind-clutter and take a look at your own self-care system, you may find some lack.

You may find you don’t even have a self-care system.  Perhaps that fell by the wayside while dealing with the heartache of that huge pot-hole you had to drive over to change your life-course.  It’s okay.  That’s all behind you now.

So my Leftat50 pet owners, as you care for your sweet pet today, make a note to treat yourself just as well as you do them.  Perhaps a treat is in order.  Or your version of a new “toy.”  It’s the little things that make our animals so happy.  Today, give yourself some unconditional love. A little A-Ha goes a long way.

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
