A Long Way From Sesame Street

Today, of all days, is Sesame Street Day.

This landmark show’s opening song,🎼 “Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?” seems almost sad, for it harkens back to a very innocent time in peoples lives.

I know the streets of this country are about as far from “Sesame” as you can get these days.

And we Leftat50’s know the pain of being forced to face a life-change we never foresaw.  We didn’t plan on it, we didn’t want it, and we had no choice but to deal with it.

No one ever wants to face an unforeseen situation.  But we must.

And then we must find our own way back again to a new “Sesame Street.”  A street that we choose to live on.🗺  Our days needn’t be filled with confusion, anger and sadness.

“When all that is familiar and known falls away, we have to face the opportunities that are presented as a result.”

For me, that meant forcing myself to turn serious problems into opportunities for personal growth.🌈 I felt isolated and like everyone from my old street, was sick of my story.  And I couldn’t introduce myself to the people on my new street as, “Hi, I’m Diane and I was cheated on and left the year I turned 50.  What’s your deal?”

But did I shut up and go away?  No.  I started Leftat50.  And who knew how much taking that step would help myself and many other women deal with it?  Besides being a shock for me, it was actually a TREND that was happening all over the place.

Now that we are together, we not only are getting past it, we WANT to get past it.  We embrace the change!  We are thankful that we get the chance to start new lives, careers and adventures.

And if we feel lost, we can come to Leftat50, and ask another traveler on this New Life Path how to get to Sesame Street!💚

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
